Eyelid surgery, medically known as blepharoplasty, is the operation that cosmetic doctors perform on upper and lower lids of the eyes. The procedure can be done on either the upper lids or the lower ones or both, depending on the physical need of the patient.

Recovery
Recovery for eyelid surgery may take a couple of weeks to three weeks. Retinal detachment, caused by holes in the retina, can also occur and is a serious complication that should be immediately brought to the doctor's attention for another surgical procedure to correct.
A milder complication is the development of an infection in the wounds around the eye or the eye itself. Antibacterial medications are usually prescribed after the operation but sometimes these fail to fully protect the patient. Stronger medication will be given or longer prescription duration may be given to eliminate the infection.
